Smartphone technologies are continually evolving as new software and hardware features are introduced. When it comes to SIM cards, the most major change we’ve seen is the eSIM card, sometimes known as a digital SIM.
Even though eSIMs have been available for a while, many of us are still unfamiliar with how to utilize them. So, in this guide, we’ll show you how to quickly use eSIM on your eligible Huawei phone.
What is the difference between an eSIM card and a regular SIM card?
It is an integrated SIM card that functions similarly to a standard SIM card but without the need for a physical card or swapping.
The eSIM card is a chip that is integrated into your phone and functions similarly to the NFC chip that is used for payments. Because the eSIM chip is rewritable, you can switch operators with a single phone call.
However, not all network operators and phones accept eSIM at this time, but that may change in the future.
The best thing about having an eSIM card is that you may subscribe to many data plans from various network providers and switch between them as needed.
Every coin, as we all know, has two sides, and the eSIM is no exception. It has a lot of benefits, but it also has some drawbacks.
Advantages and Disadvantages of an eSIM card
|It works seamlessly across the world as it stores multiple cellular profiles.||When your phone breaks or is damaged, it’s easy to transfer data to a new phone with a traditional SIM. But in eSIM cards, data is stored on the cloud, so users need to rely on the cloud to retrieve the data.|
|It does not require any specific slot for a SIM card.||It is problematic for the users who don’t wish to be tracked as they cannot remove the SIM for the device.|
|No chance of losing the card as it is integrated inside the device.||There are higher chances of getting hacked from cloud hosting.|
|eSIM provides the same level of security as a traditional SIM card.||For users who like to use different mobile phones, it is easy for them with traditional SIM cards. But it is not possible with eSIM as it is embedded in the motherboard of the phone.|
|It also supports the integrity of the billing process during roaming.||It is a challenge for the network operator to provide seamless operations worldwide.|
How to Use an eSIM Card in a Huawei Phone
Some models use the new eSIM card technology; to see if your device has the chip, go to Settings > About > Show EID and look for the eSIM id information.
If you have one of the compatible devices and your cell carrier offers this service, get a printed version of the QR code along with activation instructions. Because this feature is built into the operating system, you won’t need to install any third-party software.
Go to Settings > Mobile Network > SIM Management to manage your SIM card. Even if your smartphone only supports one SIM card, the SIM 1 and SIM 2 options are available. By default, the eSIM will be in the SIM 2 slot.
To scan the QR code provided by the network operator, go to SIM 2 > Add the eSIM. Place the QR code correctly in the frame; alternatively, you can choose a QR code from your phone’s gallery or manually enter the code.
To begin downloading the eSIM card, select Add this eSIM.
