Apple’s iOS 15 is now available. In following Apple’s iPhone 13 presentation on Tuesday, the company announced that iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 would be available for free download on Monday, September 20. Four iPhone 13 models, new iPads, and the Apple Watch Series 7 were also unveiled at the event.
Not to be confused with the release of iOS 14.8 yesterday, which addressed a security vulnerability, iOS 15 will deliver new functionality to many iPhone generations.
Apple’s iOS 15 upgrade was initially shown to the public during the company’s virtual Worldwide Developers Conference in June, followed by a developer beta and then a public beta.
While iOS 14.5, iOS 14.6, and iOS 14.7 brought a slew of new features, like the ability to unlock your iPhone with Face ID while wearing a mask, restrict applications from following you for advertising purposes, and choose from four Siri voices, iOS 15 brings even more. New iOS 15 features include the ability to initiate FaceTime calls with Android users, improved iMessage sharing, and improved Maps directions. The release date for iOS 15 is September 20.
As is customary, Apple unveiled iOS 15 during its annual Worldwide Developers Conference on June 7. On June 30, the new operating system was made available for developers to test before being made available to the general public as a public beta.
Apple stated at the iPhone 13 launch on September 14 that iOS 15. And it will be available for free download on September 20.
This is in line with Apple’s usual iOS release schedule, which sees the software arrive within a week of an iPhone launch event.
If you’ve had the same iPhone since 2015 or later, you’ll almost certainly be eligible for iOS 15. iOS 15 will be available on the iPhone 6S and subsequent iPhones.
